Device Model Best Practices Regional Warning

Fixably allows admins to manage the brands and models stored in your tenant to centralize device data and power automations. Keeping this information standardized ensures consistency across orders, reporting, and workflows.

Before creating a new device brand or model, we recommend you gather the following information information:

  • Brand Name (e.g., Google, Lenovo)
  • Model Code (e.g., GWKK3)
  • Product Category (e.g., notebook, smartphones)
  • Model Family (e.g., Google Pixel 8 Series)
  • Model (e.g., Pixel 8 Pro)

Accessing Device Brands and Models

  1. From the Navigation Menu, click Other, then Device Models

Creating New Device Brands

  1. Click the Device Brands button.

  2. Click Create a new device brand on the Brands pop-out.

  3. Enter a Brand name and unique Identifier.

  4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 to add additional brands.

Creating New Device Models

  1. Click the New Device Model button.

  2. Select a brand from the dropdown and fill in the following fields: Model code, Product Category, and Model Family, and Model (Name); then click Save.

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to add additional device models.

    Device Model Best Practices

When creating a new device model, we recommend keeping Product Categories at a high level rather than very detailed. For example, use categories such as Smartphones, Tablets, Notebooks, Desktops, or Wearables instead of highly specific sub-types.

This approach makes it much easier to manage device models across the system. By keeping categories broad, you reduce duplication, simplify searches, and ensure consistency when new models are added.

If you need to distinguish devices more granularly, use Product Group, Model Family, or Tags instead of over-segmenting the Product Category.

Importing Device Models

  1. Click the Import Device Models button.

  2. Click on Download example CSV to download a formatted template.

    Regional Warning

Using Microsoft Excel? In Excel, select Column A,

then go to Data > Text to Columns.

Choose Delimited, check Semicolon (;) as the delimiter, and click Finish to split the values into separate columns.

  3. Fill the the Brand, Product category, Model family, and Model for all brands and models you want to import.

  4. Click the  File icon and select your completed import template, then click Submit.
