How do I charge a customer?
Take payment at the counter with a charge, including split payments and partial payments, and get the receipt in one step.
Audience: front desk staff, technicians and service managers who take payment from customers.
When a customer is at the counter and paying now, you create a charge. A charge records the payment and creates the receipt in one step. You can take the full amount, split it across two payment types, or take part of it now and leave the rest outstanding.

Charge an order
In this example, a customer from Austin picks up an iPhone after a battery replacement. The order has a labor line and a battery part.
- Open the order. Check the amount due in the red Still to be paid badge on the right.
- Click the Charge menu (the cart icon) at the top of the order and select Charge... under Bill and dispatch.
- The Bill order panel opens. Check the Customer name, and add a Customer reference if you use one.
- Pick the payment type, for example Credit card or Cash. Your shop sets up these payment types, so the list may differ from the one shown here.
- Check the amount. Fixably fills in the amount owed for you. If the customer paid a deposit, it is already deducted.
- To split the payment, for example part card and part cash, click the + button to add a second payment line. Then set the payment type and amount on each line.
- Leave Dispatch product lines checked. This marks the parts on the order as handed over to the customer.
- Click Accept.
Fixably records the payment and confirms that the amount was marked as charged. The badge changes to Nothing to bill, and each line shows who it was invoiced to, the payment type and when it was delivered. The receipt is ready to print or email to the customer.

Take a partial payment
You can take part of the amount now and leave the rest outstanding. Lower the amount on the payment line before you click Accept. Fixably keeps track of the balance that is still to be paid.
