How do I check in a walk-in customer with a macro?
Check in a walk-in customer and their device step by step with a check-in macro, from serial lookup to a received order with the customer, issue and tasks filled in.
Audience: front desk staff and service advisors who check in customers.
A customer walks in with an iPhone and no appointment. A check-in macro walks you through the whole intake in one guided dialog: the device, the issue, the passcode, the customer, and the printouts. Fixably creates the order and marks the device as received for you. This article checks in a new customer at an Austin store with the Check-in iOS macro.

What a check-in macro does
A macro is a fixed sequence of steps that builds an order. You fill in what only you know: the device, the issue, the passcode, which accessories were left, and who the customer is. Fixably does the rest. It creates the order, marks the device as received, asks for a signature if you use the Fixably Signature App, and prints the receipt and the repair sticker. Every check-in happens the same way, so nothing gets forgotten.
To see the steps in your macro, go to System Settings > Macros and pick the macro from the list. Every step is listed in the order the macro asks it. Steps such as Delivery Method, Undraft and Receive run on their own and need no input.

Fixably support sets up and changes the macro steps for you. Your macro names and steps may differ from the ones shown here.
Check in a walk-in customer
- On the home page, click Macros and choose Check-in iOS. The macro opens as a dialog. The list of steps on the left shows where you are.
- On the Device step, type or scan the serial number and click Lookup. If the device has never been in your shop, pick its model from the Device Catalogue list. Brand, category, sub-category and model fill in from your choice. Click Next.

- On the Issue description step, describe the problem in the customer's own words. Click Next.
- On the Repair Details step, enter the device passcode, so the technician can test the device, and what the customer is leaving with it, such as a case. These are tasks, and the answers are saved on the order. Click Next.

- On the Customer details step, search for the customer's name and press Enter, in case they've been in before.

- If they're in the list, pick them and their details fill in.
- If there's no match, fill in their first and last name, phone, email and address. The customer record is created as part of the check-in.
- Click Next. Fixably now runs the automatic steps. It sets the delivery method, turns the draft into a real order, and marks the device as received.
- On the Gather Customer Signature step, send the order authorization to the customer's tablet, or click Skip. For this step, see How do I capture a customer signature at check-in?
- On the Print receipt and Print Repair Sticker steps, click Print while the customer is still at the counter, or click Skip.
What you get
When the macro finishes, the new order opens:
- The order is in the right queue, for example iPhone, based on the device.
- The device is already marked as received, so the turnaround clock is running.
- The issue is the first note on the timeline.
- The passcode and accessories are saved on the order as answered tasks. The passcode stays hidden until someone clicks Reveal data.
- The customer card shows the new customer with their phone, email and address.
