How do I capture a customer signature at check-in?
Use the Gather Customer Signature step in a check-in macro to have the customer sign the order authorization on the Fixably Signature App, with the signed copy saved on the order.
Audience: front desk staff and service advisors who check devices in.
When a customer hands over a device, you usually want them to sign the order authorization before the device goes to the bench. If your check-in macro includes the Gather Customer Signature step, Fixably sends the document to the Fixably Signature App on the tablet at your counter. The customer signs with a finger, and the signed copy is saved on the order and emailed to them. This article walks through that flow with a walk-in customer at an Austin store.

Before you start
- A tablet with the Fixably Signature App is paired as a signature terminal for your location. See How do I use Fixably Signature App e-signatures in Fixably?
- Your check-in macro has a Gather Customer Signature step. If it doesn't, Fixably support can add it for you.
- The Signature App on the tablet is in receive mode, waiting for documents.
Check the device in
- On the home page, click Macros and choose your check-in macro, for example Check-in iOS.

- On the Device step, type or scan the serial number and click Lookup. If the device is new to Fixably, pick its model from the Device Catalogue list. Click Next.
The list on the left shows every step of the macro, so you can see that Gather Customer Signature is coming up. - On the Issue description step, describe what the customer is reporting. Click Next.
- On the Repair Details step, enter the device passcode and anything the customer is leaving with the device, such as a case. Click Next.
- On the Customer details step, start typing the customer's name and press Enter. Pick the customer from the list and their details fill in. For a first-time customer, fill in the form instead. Click Next.
The macro now runs a few steps by itself. It sets the delivery method, takes the order out of draft and marks the device as received.
Send the document to the tablet
- On the Gather Customer Signature step, check the fields:

- Signature terminal: the tablet to send the document to.
- Documents: what the customer will sign. Your macro preselects the document your shop uses, for example Order authorization (with terms).
- Signer name: the person who signs. It's filled in from the customer.
- Email: where the signed document is sent. It's filled in from the customer.
- Click Next. The document is sent to the tablet.
- The macro moves on to Print receipt and Print Repair Sticker. Print them while the customer reads and signs, or click Skip.
- When the macro finishes, the new order opens with a Waiting for signature… dialog. Leave it open while the customer signs.

The customer signs on the tablet
- The document appears in the Signature App. It shows your shop's details, the customer, the device and the reported issue.
- The customer taps Sign document, signs with a finger, and taps Sign.

- The app shows Document(s) signed successfully.
Find the signed document on the order
- Back on the order, the waiting dialog is gone.
- Open the files menu on the order toolbar. You'll see both the original document and the signed copy, for example signed-confirmation-with-terms-20000089.pdf. Click a file to open or print it.

- The order timeline shows the email that was sent to the customer with the signed document.
Good to know
